Is it possible to get energy deposit of alpha particles?

Hi all,

Recently, I am trying to use OpenMC to do some detector simulation and I want to know is it possible to get the energy deposit of alpha particles created by the neutron reaction with other materials?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Zhongming,

When you tally the ‘heating’ score in OpenMC, it is assumed that charged particles that are emitted in a reaction (such as alpha particles) have their energy deposited locally, so the tally score will include the energy deposition from alpha particles. There is currently no way to tally just the portion of energy deposition from alpha particles however, and OpenMC is not yet capable of transporting charged particles. Let me know if you have further questions.

Best regards,
Paul

Thank you very much, Paul, really appreciate it!

Hi,
I did some work in the lab with a cesium detector. I’m trying to simulate it, but even though I watched the videos, I couldn’t quite understand how to do it. Can you share any simulation examples with me?
Thank you
